The Green Gallery is pleased to announce Mariah Robertson, Eggs. The photographic works on view meander through formalist strategies of the past, presenting them in a new context. Exploration of color, form, material and process, pervades through Robertson’s intensive darkroom exploration and questioning. In many ways, these works nod to color-field painting and process-based abstraction, however their emphasis on photographic material invites the viewer in with new vigor.
Unique to this show are a series of composite works. Here Robertson strings together imagery from her archive. Given works are composed of photographic experimentation from different moments in time. Many break the traditional rectangular format, becoming eccentric forms in and of themselves. This emphasis on materiality is heightened by the frames housing some of these works. Robertson here makes use of shaped frames which posit a kind of sculptural presence on the wall. The minimal hanging of these works further highlights their character as objects in space.
This is Robertson’s first exhibition at the gallery. Please join us Thursday, November 17th from 5-7pm for the opening reception.
