The Green Gallery presents eight new sculptures by Kambel Smith. Smith repurposed discarded materials to create scaled impressions of culturally significant Milwaukee architecture. Landmarks include the artist-built environment Mary Nohl House, one of Frank Llyod Wright’s American System-Built Homes from Burnham Block, City Hall, Milwaukee’s long gone Chicago and North Western railroad depot formerly on E. Wisconsin Ave., The Calatrava section of the Milwaukee Art Museum, North Point Water Tower, North Point Lighthouse, and Wadham’s Pagoda service station. Smith has also released NFTs of the sculptures on https://opensea.io/KambelSmith
Kambel Smith has exhibited at Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta, GA; Fleisher/Ollman, Philadelphia PA; Marlborough, New York, NY; Elaine de Kooning House, East Hampton, NY; and the 2019 Outsider Art Fair (presented by Chris Byrne), New York, NY. He has been included in group exhibitions at Marlborough, London and the Brooklyn Print & Photo Fair, Brooklyn, NY in the presentation One Day You’ll See: A History of Afrofuturism, curated by Brian Chidester.
Special thanks Chris Byrne and Lonnie Smith for helping to realize the exhibition.
