The Green Gallery is excited to present The Sequel to an Anarchist A by Nat Pyper performed with Kim Miller and Kantara Souffrant with a set by Chad Alexander at our Green Gallery West location. There will be two performances, the first on Friday May 31st at 7pm, the second on Saturday June 1st at 1:30pm. Doors will open 15 minutes before performance time, admission is free. There will be a talkback after Saturday's performance.
The Sequel to an Anarchist A is a new live art project that untangles the mess of grief through dialogue, song, book-like wearables, and a set piece inspired by the writings of Paulo Freire. Reading the artist's mother’s death through the dual developments of literacy and fascism in 1960s Brazil, this performance grapples with personal histories that are also political histories. Its themes include grief and the beyond of language; Brazilian cultural heritage and the effects of the military dictatorship; the search for anarchy in a hospital room; first memories of reading; and the role of literacy in weaving it all together.
This project is supported by the Fabian & Nobuko Foundation for Queer & Mixed Heritage Practice and the Yale School of Art Alumni Travel Fund for Residencies.
