Rehearsing the Social
Green Gallery West
Friday 9/16, 5p-7p
Friday, September 16 is the public showing of Kim Miller's Green Gallery residency, Rehearsing the Social. Included in this event are works by Wolf Studio dancers, Kim Miller, and other local artists.
Rehearsing the Social is an ongoing set of workshops that explore the emancipatory potential of our shared social world. We care about the bodies too, and how they move and maneuver to work with, for and through the conditions of possibility for freedom. How do bodies organize the space between them? What are some ways to organize this space to produce, or encourage, or nurture, or grab liberation?
The workshops explore how we negotiate our efforts to build relationships with others in social space. The social is relational, it’s fluid. Rather than a collection of individuals, it is a group, a community, an assembly. Participants were asked to respond to a series of prompts that expand the conditions of possibility. We are exploring the social as a place of relations, disagreements, conflict and understanding. This messy terrain offers multiple realities that need to negotiate with one another to survive. How does our art, our cultural practice, take advantage of this terrain to thrive?
Friday, 9/16, the public is invited to see the results of this research, as well as choose to participate (or not) in the ongoing rehearsals of liberation.
